History of Asbestos

From ancient times, the good properties of asbestos made it one the key minerals which helped to boost the industrial revolution. Asbestos use dates back at least 4500 years as it was used to strengthen earthenware pots and cooking utensils with the asbestos mineral anthophyllite. 

In industries, the use of asbestos became so prevalent due to its properties which includes:

• Good electrical insulation

• High tensile strength 

• Does not degrade overtime.

Why Worry About it Now?

Asbestos is a deadly hazard. Disturbing it, even accidentally, can have life‑changing consequences. Airborne asbestos fibres remain the leading cause of work‑related deaths in the UK, claiming thousands of lives long after exposure. This danger is real, immediate, and entirely preventable. 

Every worker who might encounter asbestos or asbestos‑containing materials (ACMs) must at least be properly trained to recognise, avoid, and respond to it safely.
